A petition signed by more than 1,000 Western New Mexico University students has successfully introduced Netflix binge watching as part of the Adult Education Services program offered free to the community.
The petition was originated in late August when students’ parents and faculty members began to question the modern-day practice of binge watching movies by the 20-something population.
Members of the Associated Students originated a resolution with the following text:
Whereas the Members of the Associated Students support the education of faculty members, parents and community on the subject of Netflix binge watching;
Whereas a vast majority of students at Western New Mexico University participate in Netflix binge watching, an activity that fosters community between students;
Whereas the affordability of activities such as Netflix binge watching which only require a monthly subscription of $9.99, is appropriate for the median income of students;
Now, therefore, be it resolved, that Netflix binge watching be an acceptable reason to be late to class on occasion and to be understandable by the wider adult community.
