A reformed school bully is now on the lecture circuit, speaking at campus colleges nationwide on the topic of the negative effects of bullying.
Steve Harrington is a student at Hawkins High School in Indiana. Harrington shares his story from first considering himself the “big man on campus” to discovering his other side when the opportunity came to help his friends in need.
“People used to compare me to Gaston from Beauty and the Beast,” said Harrington. “I could get any girl I wanted and I thought life was pretty good until I realized that those I cared about, didn’t really care about me.”
Harrington’s lectures are an open book, as he details his many school pranks and selfish acts including grafitting obscene messages on a theater wall.
“I was unable to see the signs that were right in front of me,” said Harrington. “Now I consider it my life’s goal to let people know the harmful effects of bullying.”
Harrington will be speaking in the Fine Arts Center Theater on April 1 at 5:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
