The understated and often ignored ingenuity of teenage minds will be put to the test soon with a recently initiated youth search and rescue program.
Certified as an official search and rescue organization by the State Lost And Found Department, the youth team members are given leeway in using their own tactics, often not allowed by certified groups.
Youth members are allowed to bring homemade search items and personal bikes.
When a mission occurs, the youth members are contacted to ride along with certified personnel. Youth members can depart from the adult group for 30 minute time periods. Each bike must have a built-on light. The state’s youth program is the first to be offered outside of Midwest suburbia.
